2015 Workshop & Seminar Series

MUN Botanical Garden offers a variety of workshops and drop-in programs.

Workshop

Friends of the Garden members have early access to registration for workshops in mid-April and receive discounts on workshops and programs. Please click here for more information on the Friends of the Garden.

Payment Procedure
Some workshops are free wtih admission (admission rates here), while workshops with a listed price include admission if it takes place during open hours. At this time we are only able to take payment over the phone or in person. Please follow the directions when submitting the workshop registration form.

Return Policy

Registration fees are final. Returns may be submitted with a doctor's note, minus a $10 processing fee per transaction.

Wine and WalkWine & Walk

Thursday, August 13, 2015 - 5:30 - 7:30pm
Come for a relaxing stroll in the Garden after hours. A guided tour will be provided, as well as one glass of wine, and some finger foods. More drinks will be available for purchase.
Fee: $30 public / $25 FOG; registration required

Growing Air Plants

Tuesday, October 13, 7 - 8:30pm
Todd Boland, Research Horticulturist, will introduce you to the fascinating world of Tillandsia: plants that grow without soil! In this workshop you will make and go home with your own Tillandsia display.
Fee: $35 public / $30 FOG; registration required

Orchids 101

Tuesday, Oct. 27, 7-8:30 pm
Join Todd Boland, Research Horticulturist for a workshop on how to grow and care for orchids, including a demonstration on how to transplant them.

Ongoing 2015 Workshops:

City of St. John’s Backyard Compost Program
The City of St. John's, in partnership with the MMSB and MUN Botanical Garden, are offering subsidized backyard compost bins and information sessions. Registration is required.
Dates are ongoing from Spring - Fall.

An Afternoon in the Garden
Dates: Every Wednesday, 2 – 3 pm (May – November)
Fee: General admission / Free for FOG + MUN students
Drop-in program; Registration not required.
Join our horticulture staff and see what’s in bloom at MUN Botanical Garden every week. This outdoor program will take place in the flower garden area.

Sunday Morning Bird Walks
Take a guided walk on the Gardens' nature trails with a Friend of the Garden volunteer and learn about Newfoundland birds. Bird watching sessions start 8 a.m. on every other Sunday morning, May - September. During October, the start time is 9 a.m.
Please meet in the parking lot across the road from the main gate. The group leaves promptly on time, so please be there a few minutes early. Binoculars are helpful and comfortable footwear is essential. Walks usually last 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Newcomers are welcome.
This program is offered by volunteers. Please check if the program is going ahead by calling the Garden the day before the program at 864-8590 (between 10 a.m. - 5p.m. or 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sept. & Oct.). There is no fee to go on this guided walk.
