Educational Programs at the Garden
MUN Botanical Garden has always focused on education. Even before the Garden was open to the public, it opened its doors to the province’s school groups. Throughout the years this service has grown and matured and now includes a wide variety of programs available for all ages. Education staff continues the tradition of offering school programs to grades K through 12, Parent and Tot is a popular program which welcomes new-borns to pre-school aged, and a variety of gardening and art workshops and seminars are offered throughout the year for adults.
During the summer, the Junior Naturalist Summer Camp is always well received by both parents and campers, there are weekday drop-in programs featuring hikes, duck feeding, and arts and crafts, and Sundays at the Garden throughout the open season welcomes families for walks through the garden, story time, nature hikes, and more, no registration necessary.
The many years of delivering educational programming has enriched Garden staff with a wealth of knowledge. To help pass on this knowledge, the Garden offers educator workshops and with the aid of grants has written resource manuals that provide excellent activities and information that have been tested over the years and been found effective, enjoyable, and easy.
