Literature
Database (Excel File)
Over 275 documents related to the integration of Protected
Areas and Sustainable Forest Management have been compiled into a
database of information sources from the grey literature as well as
relevant journal articles. Where possible, documents are
hyperlinked directly from the database. Document citations,
abstracts, keywords, eco- and geographical zones and a short
annotation are included. The primary worksheet includes all
documents in the database, and subsequent worksheets organize
documents into those specifically addressing the themes:
- International Case Studies
- National Case Studies
- Community and First Nation forestry and protected areas
management
- Forest Certification
- Model Forests
- Benefits provided by Protected Areas (i.e. to SFM)
- Theoretical aspects germane to conservation science
- Theoretical aspects germane to socio-economic issues
- Theoretical aspects germane to policy and management
Concept paper
The first draft of the concept paper was written to inform the
first workshop. It has since been revised, the latest draft is
available here.
We will be modifying it as the project progresses. It will form the
basis for a peer-reviewed article to be submitted by the end of the
project.
Report by AppleSeed Consulting
In year 1 of the project, we involved 3 students from the
University of Western Ontario who acted as consultants to our
project. The students contributed to the annotated bibliography,
and developed and implemented a survey of practitioners. In
addition, they carried out a mapping exercise of protected areas
and forestry activities in Canada. Their final report can be
downloaded here.
