NS 10-04

Allele Frequency Change under Meiotic Drive

The ordinary Mendelian Law is that the two alleles present in an individual will be equally represented in gametes. In mice, the T-locus on Chromosome 17 has several T alleles that occur in as much as 90% of the sperm of Tt heterozygotes. The graph illustrates Eq NS 10.7 for r = 0.1 and fA = 0.2 initially, where r is the strength of meiotic drive and causes f(T) sperm = (1 - r)/2 and f(t) sperm = (1+r)/2.
