Coalescence in a model with two diverging populations

At a time T in the past, the ancestral population split into two populations. The ancestry of a sample of two gene copies, one from each population, is traced back to the MRCA (red). The time to the MRCA (the coalescence time) is t. Notice that in this example t > T.
