Hybrid Sink between Mus musculus & M. domesticus

The two species of mice meet and hybridize in a narrow margin between their ranges. In the Jutland Peninsula of Denmark, the zone is only 50 km wide. Genetic studies indicate the presence of hybrid animals in a steep cline from domesticus in the south to musculus in the north over this interval. Examination of historical material in museum collections indicates that the position of the hybrid zone has been stable for hundreds of years.
