Ernst Mayr (1904 -  2004)

Mayr, a systematic ornithologist, is the author of several highly influential works, including "Systematics and the Origin of Species" (1942) and "Animal Species and Evolution" (1963). He was active scientifically until the day of his death, aged 100.
