Transcription from alternative DNA strands
Not all coding regions are on the same strand of DNA. In this diagram, Gene 1 is transcribed for the "lower" strand, from "right to left," and Gene 2 is transcribed from the "upper" strand, from "left to right." In both cases, the RNA transcript is synthesized in the 5'
3' direction.
