Exon / Intron structure of a large
eukaryotic gene
The transcribed gene region for the structural protein Dystrophin extends over a distance
of ~ 2.5 million base pairs (2.5 Mbp),
and includes several dozen exons
[dark green boxes]. The introns [light green boxes] occupy > 90% of the gene region: some of these intervening sequences are more than 200,000 bp (200 Kbp) in
length.
