Somatic Mutation in a Red
Delicious apple
A somatic mutation in
cells of the floral
ovarian wall gives rise to a sector of yellow-colored fruit.
Because the
mutation does not occur in the germline that gives rise to seeds, the seeds
will continue to give rise to a
standard red-skinned fruit.
