Molecular cloning of recombinant DNA in E. coli

Endonuclease digestion of foreign donor DNA and plasmid DNA allows formation of a recombinant plasmid. The recombinant plasmid is introduced into a bacterial host (transformation). When the bacteria replicate and divide, the plasmid DNA as well as the recombinant DNA are also replicated. The recombinant DNA can be cut out with the same endonuclease with which is was inserted, and purified.
