NAFO stock divisions for Atlantic
Cod (Gadus morhua) in the Northwest Atlantic
The map shows the distribution of sample series used in Carr & Crutcher (1998),
in the context of NAFO (Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization) stock
divisions. The Hawke Channel, Trinity
Bay, & North Cape samples occur in 2J3KL
("Northern Cod"), and the Scaterie Bank, Bay
of Fundy, & George's Bank samples occur
south of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Division 4. Flemish
Cap is an offshore seamount in Division 3M, outside the 200-mile limit. Genetic
differentiation among these samples is unrelated
to geographic distribution, except that Flemish Cap is distinctive (Marshall, Johnstone, Pope, & Carr, in prep.).
