Simultaneous Stimulation / Repression of Zygotic genes by Maternal genes
Maternal mRNAs anchored
at the two poles in the maternal cytoplasm produces protein signals
that alternatively stimulate transcription, or repress translation, of
a third zygotic gene. The balance between these two signals at any
point on the anterior / posterior gradient determines the level of
signal produced by the third gene.
