What you View
Cape Spear Lighthouse - Built in 1834, the lighthouse is Newfoundland’s oldest surviving coastal light. You will enjoy the dramatic seascapes not to mention the Whales Icebergs or Seabirds when in season.
Experience the marine perspective as you voyage on a Grand Bank schooner. While on board you may enjoy such thrilling experiences as watching whales as they breach the waves, viewing ice bergs as they majestically slip past your vessel and watching sea birds as they cavort with each other above the azure ocean.

Sea Kayaking Adventure
Located deep in the heart of the Irish Loop (yet only 45 minute drive from St. John's) is the renowned sea kayak destination of Cape Broyle. Here is the only place where guests can paddle alongside hundreds of whales, go inside numerous sea caves, under waterfalls, through arches, view thousands of puffins and other sea birds, experience pristine wilderness, spectacular scenery, all inside a protected fjord.

Early June the whales usually arrive and our guests are continuously surrounded by humpback and minke whales. The whales are closer to the beaches and the end of Cape Broyle Harbor than other times of the year.

Our seasoned staff is excited that the weeks and weeks of whales swimming around and under our kayaks is just starting.

The daily viewings of porpoise, dolphin and seals add lots of spice to the jumping, tail waving and spouting of the playful humpbacks.

If you are like us and can't wait to see the thousands of whales that are in our waters come on and experience an unforgettable experience!

Experience the Trinity Adventure
Trinity charms visitors on at least two accounts. Many newcomers are struck by the natural beauty of the area, a magnificent harbor and the splendid maritime setting. Others are touched by a powerful sense of history (Old Worldliness) and the pride of place instilled by the cultural landscape. Trinity is a community whose personality has been largely shaped by the Theatre in Trinity

Newfoundland and Labrador's history takes to the streets for the New Founde Lande Trinity Pageant, a walking tour of the town led by actors portraying a few of the more outrageous characters from the not-too-distant past. Additional Theatre performances are also present at various additional locations in and around Trinity. Your all inclusive package includes a Dinner Theatre as well as the pageant. Overnight experience in a True Newfoundland Outport as well as a traditional Newfoundland breakfast and return transportation.

In New Bonaventure, Trinity Bay, Cape Random was constructed in 2000 for the filming of the international TV mini-series "Random Passage". The site offers visitors the opportunity to imagine the life of our forebearers in a typical fishing community in the early 1800’s.

Boat Trip to Witless Bay Ecological Reserve
Discover Newfoundland's Natural Wonders!

If you want to see wildlife at its best - come to where the wildlife vacations ... the islands and waters of the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve.

Home to over 2.5 million seabirds - including 500,000 Atlantic Puffins and the best whale watching in North America.

Featuring the first and only high speed catamaran on all departures.

This vessel reduces travel time by 60% compared to the vessels used by the other operators. All regular departures are approximately 90 minutes in duration which still provides you with more time with the birds and whales than the 2.5+ hour trips offered by others. The greater speed, range and comfort provided by the cat lets Gatherall's get you to the whales even when most of the others cannot.

We invite you to join us, the Gatherall Family, for an exhilarating, marine wildlife adventure that captures the essence of Newfoundland and its people. At Gatherall's Puffin and Whale Watch, we take pride in the fact that ours is a family owned and operated business. Regardless of the activity, whether it be a delicious traditional Newfoundland meal in our seaside Dining Room, or an afternoon boat tour to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, there is always one of our family on hand to ensure that everything is up to your standards.

Located on the Avalon Peninsula, just a scenic 30-40 minute drive South of St. John's City Centre

Cost: $50 including HST (includes transportation)

Trip to Woody Island Resort
Situated on Woody Island in Placentia Bay, this quiet outport community, which once boasted a population of 400, is one of hundreds of fishing villages from which people were relocated under the government resettlement program.

Today it is home to mainly summer visitors. The Resort offers spectacular scenery, comfortable accomodations, excellent service, traditional Newfoundland meals, live entertainment, and a wide variety of activities.
Woody Island Resort
AGENDA
TWO DAYS (One Night)
Your trip to Woody Island departs Garden Cove at 10:00 a.m. Sit back and enjoy the 40 minute boat ride outside on the flybridge or down below in our heated cabins. You will cruise through a completely sheltered inlet as you take in the unmatched scenery of Placentia Bay. As we pass Sound Island, don't be surprised if you see pairs of bald eagles as they can often be found to make their nests there. You may also see moose or caribou on the shore or whales frolicking in the ocean as you make your way to Woody Island.
ACCOMMODATIONS

Upon arriving at Woody Island Resort, guests are accommodated in four lodges where we can hold 60 people based on double occupancy (30 bedrooms with 2 beds in each room). There are private and shared bathrooms, showers, baths, a cozy dining room/common room with a fireplace. Each lodge boasts a large patio and deck from which you can view the beautiful scenery provided by the ocean, the mountains, and the islands of Placentia Bay.

TRADITIONAL HOME COOKED MEALS

Woody Island Resort is pleased to offer its guests the finest of Newfoundland cuisine. Enjoy steaming, thick bowls of pea soup, homemade bread and fluffy toutons for lunch. Dinner consists of delicious pan fried cod, vegetables boiled or oven roasted, homemade bread, cottage pudding for dessert and a complimentary glass of wine. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we start you off right. A hearty meal of bacon and eggs with homemade toast, juice, tea or coffee. Should our guests want a little snack in between meals, they are most welcome to go in the kitchen and help themselves or ask the staff to fix them something. There is plenty of food to go around so eat up!
DAY 1 IN THE AFTERNOON

After lunch the afternoon is yours to enjoy! You can take a stroll to Janes Cove, another resettled community, visit the sandy beach just a few minutes from the lodge or go for a row in our rowboats. There are also speedboat and paddle boat rentals as well as guided sea kayaking tours, including instruction.
ENTERTAINMENT

This vacation package includes an evening of entertainment. Kick up your heels and clap your hands to live music. Perhaps you would like to sing along. This Newfoundland spree is a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. So let loose and unwind. Maybe you’ll discover the entertainer in you!
DAY 2

After breakfast prepare for the second part of your adventure, a trip on the bay!. A boat tour through the northern areas of Placentia Bay is a unique way to get a look at some of the other resettled communities such as Merasheen, Brule, Spencer’s Cove, Tacks Beach, and Isle Valen. Many of these islands have no permanent residents, just those who return each spring to pursue the fishery. The boat tour is also an exciting way to see some Newfoundland wildlife. Bald eagles soar over head. Whales and dolphins may surface to say hello. You may even spot a moose or caribou along the shore. Of course, what would a trip on the bay be without a beach boil up? Our skipper will stop on one of the beaches along the way to prepare lunch. Feel free to hike around the harbour or just sit by the fire and enjoy some music as you wait for the kettle to boil. For lunch, we have soup or chowder, sandwiches made from homemade bread, homemade squares or tea buns, as well as tea, coffee or a cold drink. After lunch is cleared away, it’s back on the Merasheen for the trip back to Garden Cove where you bid farewell to new friends and leave with enough memories to last a lifetime
