Introduction

This package is generated from a DELTA database (Dallwitz 1980; Dallwitz, Paine, and Zurcher 1993 onwards, 1998). It comprises an interactive identification and information retrieval system using the program Intkey (running under MS-Windows), descriptions (as WWW pages and MS-Word documents), illustrations, references, and other subsidiary material.

This is part of a series (Aiken et al. 1996, 1998) which presents data on the flora of the Arctic Archipelago in the form of a computerized morphological database and illustrations that may be used in interactive identification and in information retrieval.

The geographical scope of this study includes all of the islands of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, Canada, north of 60° N including the islands in northern Hudson Bay (Southampton Island, White and Caribou islands, Coats Island, Bencas Island, Digges and Mansel islands) and in Ungava Bay (Akpatok Island).

All names used in Porsild (1957), Polunin (1940, 1959), and Hultén (1968) are accounted for. The morphological data are based largely on specimens in the National Herbarium of Canada (CAN) and the Agriculture Canada Herbarium, Ottawa (DAO). Measurements are limited to the sizes of specimens found on the Arctic Archipelago. The maps are based on specimens in CAN and DAO.
