Cardamine L.

Brassicaceae (Cruciferae), Draba family.

Sp. Pl. 654. 1753.

Vegetative morphology. Blades 25–80 mm long; 1.5–12 mm wide.

Reproductive morphology. Flowers per inflorescence 2–15; small, less than 5 mm in diameter or length, or medium-sized, 5–15 mm in diameter or length. Calyx sepals 4; free; 2.2–5 mm long. Petals free; 4–12 mm long. Stamens 6; filaments markedly unequal in length; free of the corolla; filaments glabrous. Gynoecia superior. Carpels syncarpous; 2. Stigmas per style 1. Placentation parietal. Ovules 5–20. Fruit dehiscent.

Chromosome information. 2n = 16, 2, 56–100.

Illustrations. • Genus Cardamine: Bitter Cress. Genus characterised by having white or pinkish, scentless flowers, and flattened of terete siliques that open elastically from the base; seeds in one row.
