Application of metabolomics in biomarker discovery for osteoarthritis

Metabolomics is the systematic study of the unique chemical fingerprints that specific cellular processes leave behind. It provides an overview of the metabolic status and global biochemical events associated with a cellular or biological system, and become an optimal method to identify novel markers for complex traits. In this talk, I will discuss how we can use metabolite profiles in synovial fluid to identify subtypes of osteoarthritis, a recognized heterogenous disease, whether plasma metabolite profiles can be used as surrogates for synovial fluid, and finally present you the results of novel metabolite markers for osteoarthritis we identified in our study
