John Whelan, B.Comm.(Co-op)(Hons.)'05
John Whelan is currently the Executive Director of Blue Sky Family Care and a Practicing Member of the Newfoundland & Labrador Bar, John spends the remainder of his days trying to spend some time with his wife Allison while attempting to wrangle two kids and a Golden Retriever named Mister. As a past Director of the Newfoundland & Labrador Employers’ Council, John is familiar with the requirements of being a member of a high level board. John also holds an advanced certificate in management of the Queen’s University, Smith School of Business and has been an Instructor of Law and Advanced Labour Relations at Memorial’s Faculty of Business Administration. John believes that Memorial University is at a critical juncture in its history. A dwindling population base combined with a decreased ability to obtain Provincial support means that Memorial must look outward to develop access to new populations to become students at a world class university. That said, based on information provided by the Telegram’s Sunshine List, John also believes that it is time for the administration of Memorial to be challenged on the decisions it makes regarding salary and benefits for non-teaching administrative units. A bloated administration provides no educational benefits to students, no social/cultural benefit to the Cities in which we live, and no tangible benefits to Alumni seeking benefit from the conferred degree. John seeks your vote to support continued growth of Memorial’s international reputation while maintaining cost discipline at home.
