Matthew LeRiche, BA(Hons.)'03
Matthew LeRiche has been focused on higher education and research since his time as an undergraduate studying political science at Memorial. After graduating he went on complete a doctorate at Kings College London and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in International Development at the London School of Economics. His research took him to South Sudan (then Sudan) and East Africa where he also engaged in numerous development projects, often with a focus on higher education. For example, in collaboration with the UK and US governments helping establish a national defence academy. Opportunity and family brought him home to St. John’s to teach at MUN. While teaching at MUN he received the President’s Award for Outstanding Teaching. This experience from student to faculty at MUN is essential for the Board of Regents. He has recently become the Director of the Center for Global Leadership and Assistant Professor of Global Studies at Ohio University. Now with a university administrative background Matthew is an ideal candidate to sit on Board of Regents. Matthew’s has a unique perspective to view higher education in Newfoundland and Labrador. He consistently expresses a desire to see MUN focus on the purpose of education and development for NL. He has proven capable in the core areas of the Universities and academia, as a student, a lecturer and as an administrator. He will without a doubt help MUN confront new challenges in an ever-more complex global environment without losing touch with his home and MUN’s founding purpose of education and development in NL.
