Gifts in Memoriam

Memorial gifts are a wonderful way to honour a family member, friend, teacher or colleague who passed away. Your gift pays tribute to their influence and legacy in your life and can be made to any area at Memorial University that is close to your heart.

To make a gift in memory of a friend or loved one, simply indicate the name of the person you would like to remember on the online donation form or include it in the note section of your cheque. You can also donate by calling us at 709-864-4354 or 1-877-700-4081 toll free.

If you would like someone to be notified of your thoughtful gift, please include their name and contact information and we will be happy to send an acknowledgment to them (without mentioning the donation amount).

A life honoured. A life remembered.

Some people choose to create a memorial fund to support a scholarship, bursary or specific project in memory of a loved one. With a named award, you can create a lasting tribute that will recognize the person’s legacy for years to come. You may set up a named award to be presented annually for a number of years or establish an endowed award that can be awarded to students in perpetuity. Family and friends are able to contribute to the memorial fund as well and will receive a charitable tax receipt for their gift.

Gifts in lieu of flowers.

Some families ask to make a gift to charity in lieu of bringing or sending flowers in memory of their loved one. If you would like to do this in support of Memorial University, we are happy to help make this as easy as possible. We can provide donation cards and pre-paid return envelopes or sample wording to include in obituaries.

We are here to help. If you have any questions about making a gift or establishing a scholarship in memory of someone, please contact Kathrin Gill, Development Officer, Annual Giving at (709) 864-2098 or e-mail kbgill@mun.ca.
