Whitney's Choice of Emblemes 56

Alius peccat, alius plectitur

The angrie dogge doth turne unto the stone,
When it is caste, and bytes the same for ire,
And not pursues, the same that hathe it throwne,
But with the same, fulfilleth his desire:
Even so, theyr are that doe bothe fighte, and brall,
With guiltlesse men, when wrathe dothe them inflame,
And mortall foes, they deale not with at all,
But let them passe, to theire rebuke, and shame:
And in a rage, on innocentes do ronne,
And turne from them, that all the wronge have donne.
