Whitney's Choice of Emblemes 51a

Vitae, aut morti

Within one flower, two contraries remaine,
For proofe behoulde, the spider, and the bee,
One poison suckes, the bee doth honie draine:
The Scripture soe, hath two effectes we see:
Unto the bad, it is a sworde that slaies,
Unto the good, a shielde in ghostlie fraies.
