Palladas
[No title]
Every uneducated man is wisest if he remains silent, hiding his
speech like a disgraceful disease.
There is a livelier translation by Tony Harrison in Palladas, Poems
(London: Anvil Press, 1984) 28, that runs:
The ignorant man does well to shut his trap
and hide his opinion like a dose of clap.
