Christmas Break

Our last class of the year will be on Tuesday, December 15. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 5.

Merry Christmas everyone!

New Years Introduction to Aikido

In January we will have a two-week, four-class Introduction to Aikido. It will introduce the foundations of Aikido including throws, locks, controls, pins, break falls and weapons techniques as well as the more fundamental principles of posture, distance, timing, movement and harmonization.

This is designed for beginners. Experience with Aikido or any other martial art is neither expected nor necessary. All are welcome and you do not have to be a MUN student!

Registration and the first class will be on Tuesday, January 19. Registration will start at 7:45pm and then class will begin at 8:00pm. The cost is $40 and if you decide to continue with the club as a member this money will be discounted from your full membership cost. Please note: anyone under 18 will require a parental signature on their registration form.

Intro classes will occur on (this replaces the regular schedule on these dates):

  • Tuesday, January 19 – 7:45 - 9:30 p.m. (Registration and first class).
  • Tuesday, January 26 – 8:00 - 9:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 2 – 8:00 - 9:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 9 – 8:00 - 9:30 p.m.

These four classes are intended to be taken in sequence and will each focus on different aspects of Aikido, so we encourage you to attend all four so as not to miss anything.

All classes will take place at our dojo in the
St. John’s Martial Arts Centre 21 Mews Place (see Practical Info for map).

For planning purposes it would be useful for us to know how many people to expect, so please email
munaikido@gmail.com or respond on our Facebook page if you are planning to attend.

August Break

The last class in the summer semester will be on Tuesday, August 18. We will then take a break before resuming our normal Tuesday-Thursday-Sunday schedule on September 8.

Congratulations John!

On June 25, John passed his Nidan test with Osawa Sensei at the CAF Summer Camp in Toronto. Esteban helped out as uke. Congratulations John! Some pictures from camp can be seen below. Thanks to Shugyo Dojo for the permission to use these photos.
