The Animal Care Services department provides a variety of services to the Memorial University of Newfoundland research community.
The research community is represented by the scientists from the School of Medicine, the Faculty of Science and the School of Pharmacy. The main objective of Animal Care Services is to provide and maintain healthy colonies of research animals, while implementing high facility standards as called for by the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) guidelines.
MUN Policy on Use of Animals / Animal Tissues
It is a Memorial University Policy that any use of animals or animal tissues by employees of Memorial University must be reviewed by the Institutional Animal Care Committee (IACC) (Chair, IACC: radamec@play.psych.mun.ca, Director of Animal Care Services: jkeyte@mun.ca.
Adding personnel to an IACC approved project requires approval by the IACC. This is obtained by submitting an "Amendment Form" (obtainable at the IACC website). The form should identify the new personnel, including their status (faculty, staff, PDF, graduate student, undergraduate student) and their training and experience with animals in research and level of supervision to be provided if appropriate.
