Heroism of our Grandfathers

On September 9th, 2014, the Aboriginal Resource Office and Office of Aboriginal Affairs, St. John’s Campus received financial support from the WW100 Steering Committee of Memorial University to conduct a student forum on the topic of Aboriginal participation in the First World War. On October 15th, 2014 Aboriginal Elders Michael Martin and Maureen Simon travelled to the St. John’s campus from Corner Brook to discuss the topic of Aboriginal veterans and their participation in the First World War with Memorial University students. Self-identified Aboriginal student forum participants were also introduced to the Seven Grandfather Teachings of First nations, Metis and Inuit cultures in Canada.
