Gwynne Dwyer Grenfell

As part of Memorial’s commemorative activities, Grenfell Campus hosted series of events, programs and activities which highlighted the significance of the First World War. Dr. Dyer’s lecture was the appropriate inaugural commemorative event for Grenfell Campus. Dr. Dyer was on tour in Canada in September-November 2014 and February-March 2015. His book, Canada in the Great Power Game 1914-2014, coincided with the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and Canada’s first major military commitment overseas. His lecture titled “What the First World War Taught Us,” tries to explain both the rise and decline of total war in that century of conflict and the conflicting reflexes that Canada acquired as a result of its participation in those events.
