The world is changing at a fast pace, perhaps nowhere more quickly than the classroom. The problems associated with educating and training teachers who can meet the challenges of a new global society are very complex. Based on several years research and fieldwork, Teacher Training offers a model for teachers' education and internships which can meet some of the challenges of modern living.
Drs. Amarjit Singh, Clar Doyle, William Kennedy and Andrea Rose are education professors at Memorial. Memorial faculty Drs. Ishmael Baksh and Wilf Martin contributed articles to the book. Dr. Keith Ludlow is currently in charge of curriculum in Nunavut. The authors, throughout the book and through their work with interns, demonstrate how the critical transformation of a teacher intern can be enhanced.
In the preface for Teacher Training, Dr. Clar Doyle noted, "Our collaboration with interns is delicate because often they are caught between strong words, direct suggestions and sacred transitions." Interns must tread lightly in the "borrowed classroom" with "the inherited curriculum."
The book offers more than a model of teacher training. The authors see teaching interns as practitioners capable of reflection and able to take responsibilities, make decisions and solve problems for their own professional development.
Teacher Training is published in India by Kanishka Publishers.
