Honorary Degree
An honorary degree is the highest honour that Memorial University bestows. Benefactors of the university, those who have achieved eminence in learning or in the arts, or those who have otherwise distinguished themselves by outstanding public service may be nominated to receive doctorate degrees honoris causa. Memorial confers honorary doctorates of letters, laws, science and engineering, as well as masters of arts honoris causa for distinguished service to the university. [more]
Alumnus/a of the Year
The Alumnus/a of the Year Award is the highest honour awarded by the Alumni Association of Memorial University of Newfoundland, and is awarded annually to a member of the association who has made an outstanding contribution to the association, the university, the community at large, or a particular field of endeavour. Professor Emeritus
The distinction of Professor emeritus is an honour accorded to distinguished, retired members of the faculty who served full-time for at least ten years at Memorial and who held the rank of professor upon retirement. The prime criterion for nomination is sustained, outstanding scholarly work and/or service to the university. [more]
University Research Professor
University Research Professor, a designation above the rank of professor, is the most prestigious award the university gives for research. Tht title goes to faculty who have demonstrated a consistently high level of scholarship and whose research is of truly international stature. The designation carries with it a $4,000 research grant and a reduced teaching schedule. [more]
President's Award for Outstanding Research
The President's Award for Outstanding Research recognizes a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to a scholarly discipline. The award includes a $5,000 research grant. [more]
President's Award for Distinguished Teaching
The President's Award for Distinguished Teaching recognizes teaching excellence in the university community. Each winner of the teaching award receives a $5,000 grant contributed by the Memorial University Alumni Association. [more]
President's Award for Exemplary Service
The President's Award for Exemplary Service was established in 1995 to recognize Memorial's commitment to service excellence. The award honours contributions in any of these areas: service, support and professionalism; excellent performance in the job; extending help to students, faculty, fellow employees, parents, and university guests; involvement with committees or organizations.
